Why JoAnn Phoenix Academy

Our Approach
Joann Phoenix Academy provides personalized, student-centered elementary education that nurtures each child’s unique strengths, builds confidence and fosters a love of learning in a positive, supportive environment.
What does JoAnn Phoenix Academy Do?
Our micro school offers a unique, student-centered approach to elementary education. We provide a close-knit, supportive environment with small class sizes, allowing us to tailor learning experiences to each child’s strengths and needs. Our approach combines foundational academic skills with a strong emphasis on social and emotional growth, allowing each child to thrive at their own pace. By focusing on academic excellence, social-emotional growth, and hands-on exploration, we help young learners build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning. Joann Phoenix Academy brings a fresh perspective to education, creating a space where children feel valued, engaged, and inspired every day.
Joann Phoenix Academy creates a positive educational experience, free from outside negative influences, while also building students’ skills in collaboration and problem-solving. We are transforming traditional education by making sure every student is supported and empowered to succeed.
How JoAnn Phoenix Academy started
JoAnn Phonenix Academy was founded in 2024 by Kali May, a dedicated educator with 15 years of experience. After witnessing the challenges of large class and the lack of support for students with diverse learning needs, she felt driven to create a different kind of educational environment. In traditional public schools, teachers often face overwhelming workloads and excessive testing requirements, which can detract from the core purpose of teaching and leave students undersupported. Many students also experience negative impacts on their emotional well-being due to bullying and other stressors. JoAnn Phoenix Academy addresses these issues by focusing on small class sizes, allowing for individualized education plans tailored to each student’s strengths and areas for growth, while fostering a safe and supportive learning atmosphere.

To create a safe learning environment that empowers each student to reach their full potential. We prioritize individualized education, fostering problem-solving to create critical thinking skills, creativity, and collaboration. By integrating hands-on experiences and real-world connections, we inspire a lifelong love of learning and equip our students with the skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Our Mission
At JoAnn Phoenix Academy, we envision a nurturing community where every student thrives through personalized education tailored to their unique needs and strengths. We foster an environment that prioritizes social-emotional learning and collaboration, allowing students to build meaningful relationships and develop essential life skills. In this safe, inclusive space, we are committed to promoting kindness, respect and resilience, ensuring that all students are free from bullying and negative emotional impacts. Together, we inspire love for learning and empower each student to reach their full potential.
